iPod ejecting as soon as it's connected... FIX

Ok so I recently replaced the HD in my iMac and plugged my iPod Classic 120GB in to copy the songs back onto my computer. (I use DeTune if your interested).

However I found that my iPod was disconnecting itself before I even got a chance to load up DeTune, nightmare, Google proved that this was not an isolated incident. The iPod was showing in iTunes but not on my Desktop and it was not being recognised by any 3rd party apps (DeTune included).

What I have managed to do it this...

1: In iTunes preferences, under "Devices", select "Prevent devices from automatically syncing)
2: Plug the iPod in
3: Right-click on the iPod under devices in iTunes and select "Reset Warnings"
4: Right-click on the iPod under devices and select "Sync"
5: While it's telling you that this iPod was synced to another library etc you will notice that it's gone into "Synchronising" mode. Bonus.
6: This means you iPod will now be visible in 3rd party apps and on the desktop! W00t! Feel free to copy the tunes off however you please.
7: Copy your music into iTunes
8: Restore your iPod and then Sync your tunes back on

As per I take no responsibility if you turn your iPhone into a paper weight ;)

You will firstly need to downland the Jailbreak Bundle for iPhone 3GS plus pwnagetool 3.1.5 for Mac.
You will also need RedSn0w beta 0.9.5 Beta 4 and iTunes 9.2 beta.
Now once you are finished downloading all these tools, make sure to keep them in a directory together for easy access.
Now go to contents and navigate through resources to Firmware Bundles.
Once you are at the Firmware bundles, now copy the custome iPhone 2.1_4.0_8A293_bundle.bundle to the Firmware Bundles of the pwnagetool.app.
Now go to the redsn0w app and click show package contents. Now navigate to the contents > Mac OS.
After you are MacOS root directory, copy the cydia.tar.gz on your desktop and extract the file.
After this you have to copy Cydia into the pwnage tool app. Just right click on the pwnagetool.app and browse to Contents> Resources> CustomPackages. Now click cydiainstaller.bundle and over-write all files with the ones you got for Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 4.
Now you need to load the pwnagetool.app and have to create the iOS 4.0 custom Firmware for iPhone 3GS
Once you get the custom .ipsw, restore your iPhone to iOS4.0 using iTunes.

This is obviously quite a complex method. It is expected that the Dev team will release a one-click method after the official release of iOS4. Probably best to wait for that but it's up to you.

Note: You must have be comfortable with editing plist files, also i'm working on iphone 3G with jailbroken iOS 4 GM I cant confirm on other devices. I am NOT responsible for turning your iphone into a door stop! However I can confirm this works :)

Instructions...

After Jailbreak, install iFile from cydia and navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/, and open N82AP.plist

Add new keys.. for example for multitasking

<key>multitasking<key/>
<true/>

save the plist file and restart your device

for home screen wallpaper use homescreen-wallpaper

for battery percentage use gas-gauge-battery (to enable go to Settings>General>Usage, and turn Battery Percentage on.

Remember to set them to TRUE

NOTE: YOU NEED iTUNES 9.2BETA MAC OSX ONLY! (included)

NOTE: JAILBREAK CURRENTLY ONLY CONFIRMED ON iPHONE 3G (NOT 3G[S] or TOUCH) (I can personally confirm it on 3G)

1: Install iTunes 9.2Beta

2: RESTORE (not update) your iphone using the ALT+Click method and select the iOS4 GM firmware

3: download redsnow 0.9.5 and iOS4 Beta 4 (for iPhone 3G)

4: Run redsnow and point it to iOS4 Beta 4

5: Continue with jailbreak as per normal (yes using the beta 4, its uses the Beta 4 exploit but when it uploads to the iphone it uses the currently installed GM)

6: Enjoy a jailbroken iOS4 GM :)

Center Document in Word 2007

I recently installed Office 2007 for my parents only to find that in full screen the document (page) was aligned to the left of the screen. This did not make them happy. After doing some research courtesy of Google, I found that this was common practice for Word 2007 on widescreen monitors. It allows two pages to be viewed next to each other.

I read some posts claiming to solve the problem by either zooming the page or by changing the size of word. Neither made me happy. So here it is, the quickest and least intrusive way of centring one page on Word 2007:

Select the "View" tab on the menu bar --> tick "Ruler"

Bang, simple is as simple does.
